Your first brush session

Start with a sniff

Put the switched-off kit nearby and let your dog approach in their own time. Reward calm curiosity. Keep the first introduction short, and cords and small parts out of reach.

Choose the brush before you switch on

Read the instructions and choose the attachment recommended for your dog’s coat. A brushing attachment and a clipper do different jobs. Do not shave a double coat to deal with shedding. Ask your groomer if you’re unsure what to use.

Short sessions count

Introduce the motor sound gradually. Use gentle strokes in the direction of the coat, avoid pressing hard, and take breaks. If your dog pulls away or seems worried, stop. You can try again another time, or use a regular brush.

Look after the kit, too

Switch off and unplug before emptying or cleaning. Follow the manual for the bin, brush and filter. Only wash parts marked washable, and let them dry completely before putting them back. Never rinse the motor unit.

Mats, sore skin or an unusual change in shedding call for a groomer or vet, not harder brushing.
